Southern governors have banned open grazing and have asked Buhari to address the nation's security concerns.

The governors of 17 southern Nigerian states have demanded that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ), address Nigerians on the challenges of insecurity and restore people's trust. This was stated by the Forum in a 12-point communique read by its Chairman, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, at the conclusion of its four-hour meeting in Asaba, Delta State's capital.

The governors affirmed that the people of Southern Nigeria remain committed to Nigeria's unity based on justice, fairness, equity, oneness, and peaceful coexistence between and among its peoples, with a focus on achieving shared goals for economic development and prosperity.

He stated, "Southern Governors expressed grave concern about the security challenges currently afflicting the nation and strongly urged Mr. President to address Nigerians on the challenges of insecurity and restore our people's confidence." “We observed that the incursion of armed herders, criminals, and bandits into the southern part of the country has posed a severe security challenge, such that citizens are unable to live normal lives, including engaging in various productive activities, posing a threat to food supply and general security.

“As a result, the meeting resolved that open grazing of cattle be prohibited throughout Southern Nigeria.” “Agreed that the advancement of the nation necessitates immediate and bold steps to restructure the Nigerian Federation, including the evolution of state police, a review of the revenue allocation formula in favor of sub-national governments, and the establishment of other institutions that legitimately advance our commitment to and practice of true federalism. “In light of widespread calls among our various peoples for greater inclusiveness in existing governance arrangements, the Federal Government should convene a national dialogue as soon as possible.” The forum expressed concern about the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway's continued gridlock. As a result, the meeting recommended that ports be activated and established in other federation states in order to create new jobs and promote socioeconomic activities in the country. The Southern Governors also expressed concern about the economic implications of another lockdown on the country, and as a result, they advocated for greater coordination and cooperation between the federal and state governments in developing pandemic response strategies.

The meeting was attended by fifteen governors. Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Dr Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Godwin Obaseki of Edo, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Oyo are among them (Lagos). Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), David Umahi (Ebonyi), and Willie Obiano are among the others (Anambra). The states of Imo and Akwa Ibom were represented by their deputy governors, while Osun and Cross Rivers were absent from the meeting.
